Now, with the forthcoming GTI MkV, Wolfsburg wants to show that it has learned its lesson well. As a
consequence of that story, the new one is going to become a puristic and more
compromising car. Less is more and lighter is better are the key-notes of the engineers. And so it
comes that buyers will have to renounce some things to the benefit of the vehicle's road performance and,
hopefully, its price.
A 200hp engine and an effective diet are presumably good preconditions to bring
the old days' GTI feeling back. Customers who want more get served with an R32 again. Equipped with
all usual goodies, the new one is intended to combine comfort and performance. To make up its higher
weight, VW is going to increase the output of its 3.2 litre type six engine from 241 to round 250bhp.
