Since a Targa version of the Cayman is missing in the Porsche line up, creating
one suggested itself. And, our designer and managing editor likes such kind of cars. So how could
we refuse making this feature!? The idea with the hardtop was developed during
storming process. But the first drafts seemed to
be too unspectacular for our magazine. All changes regarding the Targa
roof looked fine but, the images weren't cool enough. As we here present
the most stylish tuning cars, it needed refinement.
As an obeisance to the TechArt designers, who create the best tuning
accessories for Porsche sports cars, we put some of their parts to our
Boxster/Cayman conversion, the
Cayarga, as we call it. And it turned out a fantastic enhancement. In
that style the thing is a show stopper - we are proud of it. A question which
could come up is: Where can the roof be stored? In past days, the Porsche
Targa driver could fold a black yet space-saving textile roof to put it in
his car. But actually we did envisage a hard panel for our concept.
However, such a thing can't most certainly be stored in the front boot, it will not fit in.
A hinge in the middle of the panel could make this possible, maybe! Yes, it
reduces trunk volume whereas leaving it in the
garage means being without shelter in case it rains. Perhaps a canopy option is
nonetheless a good idea!? It would make the Cayarga looking not as perfect as with a section
in body colour but it's great in this style though, doesn't it!? After all the
vehicle is conceived to be driven without the roof and the panel is, literally, just
Some might object at this point that the approach is nonsense. When driving without
top is the main purpose, why spoiling the open-air feeling by the remaining part
of the hardtop in the roadster's back. A bettered over roll protection could be
mentioned as a reason or, the shelter from the wind because the thing is an
effective wind shot. But, such considerations might be too pragmatic. We think
actually there is just one reason for investing on a Cayarga: Standing out of the rest
by possessing a rare and individual Porsche!
