MERCEDES DASHBOARDS REVIEW

DRAFTS FOR OTHER MODELS

It is true that Stuttgart have got some new customers with fresher looks, more sportive suspension set-ups and trendy niche products, but some well-off customers decided in favour of options that have got what Mercedes cars were once excelling in, up to the early 1990's. And that's exactly the clientele whose investments would mean big deals for Stuttgart, in contrast to some smaller models. Some of them had no, or just a negative effect on the DaimlerChrysler balance.

But the Benz boys learned from the last year's trouble and will go for reconstituting their yesterday's reputation. 'Appreciation' is the name of the programme that defines what Mercedes Benz cars should stand for in the future. In this plan, there are plenty of attributes that had once been associated with vehicles of the renowned German premium brand: Representative luxury, long-haul comfort, innovative safety features, and above all outstanding built-quality as well as superior reliability.

Forthcoming Mercedes Benz cars will have to embody all that. In addition to technical issues, design is what the back-to-the-roots-strategy depends on. Exteriors must appear more worthy and solid, suggesting safety and quality to buyers and occupants before they invest on or get in. And that should be mirrored by the interior. Feel-good atmosphere is a must, and it's more than just a matter of technology. The look of the controls, the steering wheel's design, the monitor graphics and even the shape of the seats should underline the technological standard. > Next
