Aston Martin is reportedly interested in using Mercedes' hybrid engines. Sure, they are! After all the small car maker that is owned by some investment companies and a British racing team can hardly afford developing their own hybrid drive. The key question is whether the Daimler AG will be positively responsive! Yes, of course, it could be a profitable deal. But there is some more to it then some direct financial benefits.

Currently, a strong competition is formed up in Germany: The Stuttgart-based Porsche SE. That holding will soon own a majority in the Volkswagen AG which is not only possessing the premium car brand Audi but also the luxury labels Bugatti, Bentley and Lamborghini. Together with Porsche itself, it will be a mega company whereas the Daimler boys now are, after the divorce from Chrysler, the small ones at Stuttgart.

Seen in this light, even rumours regarding a closer cooperation other than that on the engine sector seems to make sense. Since both companies offer high-end luxury cars, there might be some helpful synergies. The CEO of the fine, exclusive Britisch sports car manufacture, Dr. Ulrich Bez, is a German who knows this business very well, for decades. On the other hand, Daimler supports Porsche's competition with that deal and has a foot in the door - In case Aston Martin will ever get some economical difficulties.
