At Mercedes, the letter F stands for the German word Forschung, what means:
Research. Usual future technologies are showcased with the F cars. Such
research vehicles hint to what is currently in the pipeline and
what the engineers are experimenting with. Besides eco-friendly driving
technologies, the F800 comes with a pretty futuristic design.
And indeed, this is the future. Stuttgart claims the thing is a foretaste
on the next C-class, coming out late 2013 or early 2014. However, there
are some details which will remain exclusive to the show car. The sliding
doors and the lacking B-columns for example. And the production model won't
get the stripe connecting the rear lights.
Also the front lamps will be modified. The interior, on the other hand, is
going to be totally different. But its camera supported touch pad by which
the multimedia system is controlled will really replace the central controllers
on future Mercedes cars - not only the one of the next C-Class model.
