AMI 2003 +++ April 4th, press day +++

To put our fingers at the pulse of the national motor industry, we attended the press conferences of Audi, Mercedes Benz, Smart and Volkswagen. No one of them really were about referring to the current difficult situation concerning sales, revenues and turnover, without picking out last year's positive results underscored by optimistic prognoses for new launched models and coming months.

AMI 2003 press conference impressions

In matters of press presentations, DaimlerChrysler set the standard one more time and presented national superstars who introduced the new models of Chrysler, Jeep, Mercedes Benz and Smart, which clearly turns out the great attention they pay to Leipzig's motor show. No other make, except Peugeot, gave a greater support to the AMI than Mercedes Benz. Even the recent C-class' world debut was celebrated here, and not in Geneva. Time to send off a warm thank you to Stuttgart and, of course to Paris as well!

Audi's performance was by far less spectacular. A board member merely referred to the Germany premieres at his speech and the press just didn't feel impelled to ask any questions at the end of the conference. Volkswagen, on the other hand, informed the journalists more extensive. But we think placing emphasis so much on the new T5 Transporter wasn't a wise decision because the other debutants are more important for Volkswagen's image than the T5.
